Exclusive Movie Review

From the writer and director of Fantacide Masochist pictures presents Terror Nation.

The Fisher Theater Bungay in Norfolk was host to local film personalities for the premiere screening of Shane Darren Mather's latest film, Teror Nation. This latest Mather shocker is not for the squeamish and is laced with outstanding special effects, a contriversial story line and sexual deviation. Superb filming, a cinematic feel complete with a captivating music score must rank this as Shane's best movie to date.

This is going to go down well with conspiracy theorists providing they don't have a weak stomach, the horror factor in Terror Nation is very believable and uses similar methods the Wild Bunch used for the memorable shooting scenes, this was underlined when Shane admitted, during an exclusive interview, one of his favorite directors was Sam Peckinpah. "You're not going to believe this" explained Shane "But I can't stand the sight of blood but I have always been fascinated with directors like Peckinpah, a master in his art"

Terror Nation is certainly alternative picture house stuff that has qualities of main stream film making. It's evidently milder than Shane's previous eye opener Fantacide and perhaps it is meant to appeal to a wider audience. It's unbelievable looking at a practically nonexistent budget how Shane could conjure up such an impressive production and makes one wonder what he would be capable of if he had some serious backing.

There was an air of anticipation by the actors before the screening as some of them hadn't been under Shane's unique direction before "Shane was a dream to work with" said Andy Callaghan who plays one of the main characters, hardman Johnny Valentine "I can't wait to see the end result, a lot of hard work went into this" Norfolk actor, David Frost, who plays a twisted government official admitted he was actually heaving in one of the scenes with a mutilated corpse so it was evident this was going to be an audience shocker.

The opening title credits and introduction indicated the quality of the movie and set the mood for a surprised theatre. The story line quickly established itself as did the actors in a fast moving race against time. In the opening scene the robbery of securely guarded briefcase ends in a bloody shootout, the robbers, Ray (Samuel Victor), Mitch (Sid White), Paul (Johnny Lynch) and ringleader Johnny (Andy Callaghan) - head onto the streets on a seemingly endless journey when their get away plan is foiled from the start.

As the plot thickens we learn that the briefcase holds a dark secret and is the center of corrupt government plan to wipe out an entire Nation. Strong language throughout and a script that doesn't hold back any punches is backed by some superb acting and a beautiful Norfolk backdrop. The editing and action scenes are brilliantly executed and are a sign of things to come concerning this extraordinary and talented director.
